I want to go infantry and go Rangers. Problem is... i took the ASVAB a few years back and I didn't miss any questions. Granted, that is the easiest test I ever took, but still. If I ace the ASVAB will they try to talk me out of infantry and Ranger? I was told this by some people in the military. they said they would want me in a much more useful position. I went to college but i don't want to be an officer either. They won't try to make me an officer either will they? I can stay enlisted right?i have a degree in Electrical Engineering... i'm not worried about a job when i get out, i'm worried about my job when i'm in.i hear ya Justin... but my brother does intel right now and he's bored out of his mind doing the name match thing. i want a gun and something to shoot at! Seriously... i want infantry, combat, middle east. i don't wanna be cooped up on a ship doing calculations, or brainwork in the military. id like to see some action.

If you aced your ASVAB you can go anywhere you want. If you want infantry they're not going to try to talk you out of it.

No, dont be stupid. They wont talk you out of anything...I have a friend who scored a 98... here is our conversation...Me"Wow, good job dude, you can be anything you want, what do you want to do?"RG"infantry...I wanna kill people, dooncoons and stuff."me,"...uhh......yeah..."granted I still think you are an idiot, but whatever floats your boat. Hope being infantry is fun, when you get out and realize there are no job opps besides mall cop and police officer. The smart guys are the ones that try to learn as much as they can...I know a few guys who make 110,000+ a year. Applying the technical skills they learned in the navy enlisted.

What a tool. Anyone that wants to be a grunt they will happily take. They won't make you an officer either if you don't want. Enjoy yourself as a grunt!

They might try and talk you out of it but you are the one who is enlisting. You decide at the end tell them it's infantry or I don't enlist.

If you ace the ASVAB, you can be in any job you want (including infantry). After taking the test, they would make you list the top 5 or so jobs that you would want (at least it was like that in the Air Force, over 15 years ago). And they would try to put you in a job that the Army needs you to be. Or I think they might be able to give you a guaranteed job in infantry if you only want THAT job... Good luck!

If you want to succeed in the military, do the best possible on the ASVAB and follow the direction of your recruiter. If you are offered a commission, take it. The military is a great opportunity if you follow their preferred route for your career. If you do not take advantage of all they offer, you will quickly be dissatisfied.

you ultimately are the one to sign the contract, so no they wont make you do anything. But they might suggest some jobs that might fit your score, but again, you do and sign for what you wanna do.

I appreciate your desire to serve. I don't want this to sound messed up, but don't you think you are being a little bit selfish? I mean, the military could really use someone with your intelligence in a more technical area. Just because you want to be infantry, you would put your aptitude to better service in something like weapons systems, intel, science or engineering.

How about you ace the ASVAB and then stick to what you want? It's really not that hard, and someone as "intelligent" as you should be able to figure it out. Just because they will TRY to talk you out of it doesn't mean that you have to listen. Ace the ASVAB get an infantry contract with an option 40. You can do what you want. Which is why you want to score well. Grow a pair and stick to what you want. If they say "its not possible" or something similar, say, "thank you for your time" and get up and leave. There will be a recruiter somewhere else that will place you into w/e job you want and/or qualify for.
