Should I take a Masters in Cosmology?

Hello everyone,

I have a degree BA hons in Accounting and Finance and am currently working in London. However, ive always been fascinated by cosmology/astronomy and the universe as a whole. I have seen that the University of Sussex has a Masters in Cosmology which I am very interested in pursuing.

In terms of astronomy I only have basic knowledge only. I have completed a beginners college course in astronomy and read several of the classic space science books (brief history of time/cosmos etc). My plan is take the course up part time, over a 2 year period, whilst running my business at the same time. I do not intend to take up the course until the business is doing well enough for me to pursue my passion. Please could someone help with a few questions I have, as I dont want to jump into something without knowing more about the subject:

- Would I find it very difficult to adapt my basic knowledge to a masters in Cosmology?

- Is Cosmology the best subject choice? (my interest is in both theory and practical knowledge of the universe. But i feel i may struggle with the more advanced mathematical aspects)

- Has anyone else undertaken a similar subject, if so could you please advise how you found the experience and what you are doing now?

Please note I am not necessarily looking to pursue a career in Cosmology, as I fully understand how difficult this could be.

Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Regards,

Robert Hughes
