Should I stop talking to my ex?

My ex and I broke up about 2 months ago. We dated for 2 1/2 years long distance. We were both in high school while dating so we never met in person. This was my first relationship so the past two months have been so hard for me. Two days after we broke up he started dating a female friend he knew for about a year on Xbox Live. I was absolutely shocked because I didn't think it was a serious brake up and that we would get back together (he said this) He told me she asked him out and he thought I was over him so he said yes. I was really upset by this because the possible miss-communication and how easily this could have been avoided. He seemed to move on to the next girl very fast in past relationships. He met this girl in person after dating her for only a month and he never met me after dating me for years. He made me hurt even more by telling me that he was planning on seeing me in person very soon until we broke up. One day he called me at 1 in the morning while he was in her town just to tell me how much fun he had, how much he loves her, how much money he spent on her (almost 1000 dollars), and to ask me if I was jealous. He also told me that he would come back to see her again in a few months and ask her to "engage" him. He was also telling me about the appartment he would get with her. He seemed to say more and more hurtful things like that because I showed no sign of being upset about any of it. I got upset after he told me he "slept" with her in her dorm room because he told me he wanted to stay pure before marrige, something he takes very seriously. He then laughed at me and told me that he just meant that they slept in the same bed. I felt like he worded it this way to upset me. He also told me that I won't find another guy that treats me as good as he did. He seemed angry that I never contact him. I don't like talking to him because all it does is hurt me. My mom told him to leave me alone, and for 2 weeks he has. Should it stay this way? We are both 18
