Should I start off with a 250cc or a 600cc bike?

Some people are saying to get a 250cc and some people are saying to get a 600cc for a first bike. Im not sure.I am taking the beginner motorcycle riding course next week and that would be the only expereince I have with bikes.I dont have experience with bikes but if I get a 250cc im going to want to get something faster anyway what are the main diffrences in a 250 or a 600?What should I do?Thanks
