I've owned my 1990 Toyota Celica GT since January 2010. Since then, I have paid for new brakes for both axles ($300), new alternator ($200), new battery ($90), two new tires ($100), and an alignment ($75). So you can see, I've spent almost $800 over the past 5 months. Now my mechanic says I have a front wheel bearing that needs to be replaced ($300). I need to know if I should sell the car or make the repair and keep it. Some of you might be thinking "are you crazy?? Sell it!". However my dilemma is I don't want to sell my car that I've just put a lot of maintenance into and get another car and start all over again. Call it the lesser of two evils, but many of the things I've paid for won't have to be replaced again til years from now (alternator, brakes, battery). The new tires are good for thousands of miles and the other two tires will probably need be replaced within the next 3-6 months, they still have decent treads. I basically don't want to be the one who shells out all the cash and fixes it up til it's actually reliably running, then sell it to someone else and not even get my money's worth for all the maintenance put into it.
Should I keep my car knowing that although it's giving me expenses now, I don't have to worry about it later? Or should I sell it with the assumption that more things are going to go wrong? I don't have much money, I was going to sell it for $1500 and use my $1000 savings to buy a 94-99 Honda Civic or Accord, cash up front. But I think I'll jump off a tall building if I end up doing expensive repairs all over again after selling my (potentially) worry free car to someone else. **I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A CAR PAYMENT** I'm 21 and in college and I don't need another bill
**IMPORTANT** Advice from actual mechanics or Toyota experts is preferred! No random opinions from people who only buy new cars please! Also, what other repairs can I expect if I keep the car?
Thanks in advance for the replies I really appreciate it
