I am sleepwalking since I can remember. My sister used to complain when we where kids that I'd talk to myself in the middle of the night, waking her up (she was sleeping in the next room!). Today I'm 27 years old and I'm still doing it - I think I talk or at least laugh every night, sometimes I sit up in bed (2-3 times a week?) and very rarely I get up. If I get up (or at least when I know of it) I usually wake up and remember my dream and why I was doing whatever I was doing, I'm very embarrassed when I realize it and I go back to bed, sleeping within seconds again. I hurt myself only once, that was about 3 years ago - I dreamed that some rocks where falling down on me so I jumped out of the way. I took the wooden corner of the bed and left some skin behind - nothing serious. If I don't wake up its often my girlfriend that tells me the stories the next day, or hits me because I was laughing so hard in the middle of the night that I woke her up.
I also feel that I'm usually quite tired during the days, that might be connected...
I realize that waiting lists for sleep laboratories are quite long - and there is people out there that endanger themselves or others so they need the space more than myself anyways. I asked my doctor once about it and he asked me if I fall asleep while driving or while watching TV - I never do that and I felt ashamed that I even brought it up, seeing that my sleepiness during the day is just bothering, but in no way hindering my life in any circumstance.
But: Should I see a doctor for that? Could they even do something? Or shall I just go on with my life ignoring it?
BTW I don't think that I'm stressed at all. I'm a pretty relaxed guy. And I don't use or drink. I also want to add that it doesn't really bother me - I can live with it. I just want some input in what other people think about it. Maybe I approach this too casual?
Oh I forgot to mention. My girlfriend reports that I stop breathing sometimes for up to 10 seconds (which is not very long or concerning I believe). But I guess its relevant for my question - and I have a history of sleep apnea in my family as well.
