Should I pursue a relationship with my former 8th grade history teacher?

I'm 21 years old and I often think about my 8th grade history teacher. When I was his student I was 13 years old and had the biggest crush on him. He was in his late 40's early 50's then so I'm assuming that he's in his late 50's now. I still have feelings for him. I feel like he's the perfect man. But I have never been able to get in contact with him. But I found out that he has a Facebook. I want to send him a message or add him as a friend but I am so shy. I don't know how to let him know how I feel. Should I take the chance and just message him?
 
Honestly what is there to lose go for it. And a good topic opener is to talk about all the good times in his class and so on.
