I am considering purchasing a 2001 Toyota Prius, automatic, with 113,000 miles on it. The price is going to be $7,000 not including tax, government fees, etc. etc.

Kelly Blue Book says the equivalent car is worth $9,000.

I'm really wondering how good the Hybrids have held up over the years, what I can expect maintenance wise, and if it's even worth buying this car. The dealer (who was working with... well, I guess "limited" english) said that they installed a "brand new hybrid" while we were looking under the hood. I can only assume that means they recently replaced the battery which I've read in other places that becomes a problem after 100,000 miles.

Any other issues I should be aware of? Any suggestions or questions I should ask the dealer? I'm definitely going to get a Carfax report before I purchase the car but I'm going to have to pay for that myself and on top of that I'm still in the negotiating stages. If all goes well, I'm looking to purchase the car tomorrow!

I have test driven the car so no issues there. I didn't feel anything strange but admittedly I wouldn't particularly know what to look for.

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole. If the dealer can't tell you exactly what was replaced then he's lying to you. Don't assume anything when it comes to used car dealers. As far as he's concerned he may have just replaced a sticker saying "Hybrid" and is telling you they replaced the hybrid.
