Should I play the clarinet or in the pit for marching band?

Hey, so I'm a bassoonist, I've been playing for three years so far, and I'm going to play band/marching band next year. I'm wondering which instrument I should play for marching band, since playing a bassoon while marching is dangerous.

I'm kinda wanting to do clarinet, but I might end up playing in the pit because I have 0 experience with a clarinet. Now, I'm not saying that the pit is bad, but I feel as though I'm not meant for it. I played piano when I was younger, and I don't enjoy it as much as the bassoon or recorder (I started teaching myself recorder this year).

Recorder is actually quite enjoyable, and if I'm good at recorder will I be good at clarinet, and can I learn it good enough to be in marching band the first year? (Only people in the top two band group things, and maybe some people for the third are allowed to be in marching band. There are three band groups. Wind ensemble, symphonic, and concert I think.)

Also, I think my band directors are expecting me to be in the pit, so what to do?

P.S. Don't just say, "Just do what YOU want to do!" 'cause I don't know what to do, that's why I'm asking you! I'm asking your opinions.

P.S.S. Sorry for this being so long!
