Should I paint my bike so it's not so fancy?

Right now it's yellow and black and I was thinking of painting it but I'm not sure if that's the best idea; I'm only an amateur spray painter. I assume it would decrease the value considerably. Is that something many people do, or not?
It's a mountain bike if that makes a difference.
 
it depends on what type of bike you have if its like a mongoose from walmart go ahead but if you have a good top of the line bike like red line or haro im assuming its bmx then no take it somewhere and pay for it plus some metals like alumenum are hard to paint and take many coats
