Should I keep the car or bring it back to the dealership?

I just purchased a 2003 Dodge Neon today. It had 54,000 miles on it and according to car facts had been in no prior accidents and had 2 previous owners. The last owner only kept the car for about a year. I payed around $5,000.00 for the car.

I test drove it before purchasing it of course and drove it today for about 44miles. I noticed the breaks squeak really badly when you go down hills and I called the dealership on that. They told me if I still had problems to bring it back on Monday.

I went to drop some things off at work and as I got into my car the check engine light came on. It shakes when I back it up and the cooling fluid said "add fluid"

The man at the dealership told me the car may need to be "reset" not exactly sure what this means but, Should I return the car? Was I sold a lemon? I really do like the car but I'm a bit disappointed what could be wrong??

You should definitely bring it back and have them fix it. Unfortunately you bought it as is so they may try and stick you with the repairs. But legally there is a window of 48 hrs. that you have to return the car if your not satisfied. Write a list of all the things you noticed that are wrong and if they are reputable they may just fix it for you, if they start to give you the run around you may need to tell them your uncle who is a lawyer may need to look into it.

Unless the dealership has a return policy themselves, there is no "right of rescission" or "buyer's remorse" law that allows you to return the car within a set time period. Very common misconception in today's world. Once you sign papers and drive off, the car's yours.

Keep working with the dealer to fix the minor issues, especially if they are willing to help you. By law, they are not required to.

(Side note: a 6-year old vehicle that's out of warranty wouldn't qualify for any Lemon Law...)
