Should I join the outdoor track team at my school even if I'm out of shape?

I was really hoping to join outdoor track at my school since my grades were getting better and I love running. However, I stopped jogging when winter came around because I found it too cold (bad excuse, I know). I'm not sure if I should still join, I mean like- I don't want to bring the whole team down just because I wasn't "physically" prepared. But my friend told me that even if I'm out of shape, if I got to practice often and I try really hard, it won't matter, because I'll catch up. Help? :O
It starts next week and I'm most likely joining something with long distance.

yes even though your out of shape this will help you get back in shape even though you will have to do a little extra iit will be worth, and you will be caught up in no time:)

you wouldnt bring the whole team down. if your planning on getting back into better shape its a great idea

You could start off going to just track practices and when you feel more comfortable start going to the meets. Besides track is a sport where unless you are doing a relay you can't really let your whole team down. Plus if the season has just started I'm sure everyone is not in their best shape either! As long as you are working hard you will be an asset to the team!

sure thing, lots of people do track to get in better shape for outside or next-season sports/activities

just dont slack off

Trust me...you won't bring the team down. They will be happy to have another runner. Even if at first you aren't very fast or good even you will definitely catch up with the rest of the team. And you probably won't be the only one out of shape so don't feel alone. Just work hard do YOUR best. Good luck! :)

Track is one of those sports where you can't bring the team down. They don't have to play you in the events if you're not good and if you don't do well, you just don't earn points. Go to practice try hard and stick with it and you will get in better shape and be at a point where you can help the team.
