Should I have the "where is this going" talk with him?

We are both in college. He's a senior and I'm a freshman and we've known each other for like 3 months already. He's never really told me that he likes me but he says I'm pretty and we've kissed a couple of times. We talk on the phone and text about once a week. I heard from one of his friends that he still hasn't gotten over her so I'm afraid he's just using me as a rebound. So should I talk to him and ask him what he wants from me or am I just being paranoid
