Should I get Halo 2 for PC?

I am going to be getting a new computer soon, very kick *** might I add..I only had a question though..

I have heard you have to pay to play Halo 2 online, is this true? Or do you get to join other people's servers for free?

Please answer my questions only if you truly know the answer..
