Should I get a new camera for GCSE Photography?

A little over a year ago, I received a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W210 for my birthday, and (after losing it frequently) I have found it. Would it be adequate for my GCSE Photography course, or should I get something else?

At the time it was bought, it was very expensive, so I am reluctant to getting a new one. However, if it affects the picture quality significantly, I might have to get a new one. Could anyone suggest a more suitable camera, if I need one?

An SLR would be perfect for that! a nikon is highly recommended
