Should I get a kitten in a house under these conditions?

So I want a kitten but I also have an 18 pound dog and I am on summer vacation for a couple months so I could spend the time to watch them for the first few weeks of them meeting and I know the whole process to getting them used to each other.

What I'm really concerned about is the fact that we have a small dog door for dog up to 30 pounds or so. If the cat saw the dog go in and out do you think it would copy the dog? or would it be afraid to go through a door where they can't see what's on the other side? or would it not even be able to go through it? Also, if they did go outside could i train the cat to not run away and not have it used to being outside for long periods of time?

We have a German Shepperd and they were raised with each other and are fine. So as long as you have them together as the kitten grows up they should be ok.

If the cat figures out what the door is for, yes it will go out. I have 4 cats and even the ones that are afraid of being outside will go out an open door just because of curiosity.
If you let a cat outside there is always a possibility it will run away, get lost or be ran over. I used to let cats outside, but after loosing 2 and having one fight with raccoons, I will Never let a cat out again.
