Should I get a 1996 Jeep Cherokee for 2300?

There is a 1996 Jeep Cherokee for 2300 in my town its is pretty good on the outside and inside i really like the SUV and its my first car i am looking for but...there is a leak in the water pump and idk how much more that will be to fix? I really need help from anyone. Just tell me if its a good idea r not?

Hi There,if the water pump is actaully dribbling water out,then i would be very wary of buying the vehicle,sorry to sound so negative,but the harsh reality is that the current owner obvously doesnt give a damn about the vehicle,and the engine may have actually overheated which could end up giving you a big repair bill.If however its a gradual seeping leak you will be ok.Go back and check the rad header tank and see if there is any Coolant/Antifreeze in there,if not then the chances are the leak is bigger and all the coolant has been replaced with water.You should see the Green/Blue or Pink colouring of the coolant.The pump is fairly easy to do your self with reasonable knowledge,figure on $300.00 for a garage.I had a cherokee and it was a fantastic vehicle,extremely reliable,and a lovely drive.

go to kbb.com and type in the make, model, year, and features and they will tell you how much its worth. It's free and its how I knew what to pay for my 95 Cherokee. On KBB.com you'll get 3 prices, a high-range, a mid-range, and a low-range. I paid around mid-range after bargaining with the guy I bought it from to bring it down about 300 dollars from 1800 to 1500. Since it has a leak I wouldn't pay what the high-range price is and only if it's decent looking inside and out and doesn't have any other major problems, then it's worth mid-range. If the price is set higher than KBB.com says its worth just mention you KBB'd (Kelley Blue Booked) it and its not worth what he/she's charging. If they don't want to make a reasonable deal than it just depends on how much you want a 96 Jeep Cherokee. You could try checking on the price of water pumps for 96 Jeep Cherokee's online, if their not too bad price wise then the Jeep might be a good investment. All you'd have to do is take it to a fair mechanic or if you have the know-how you could do it yourself.
