I was fired from a summer camp in WA this summer, I worked there just for one session, the reason they gave is because I allowed one of my campers to use my cell-phone, I allowed him to use it because he was feeling really home-sick and threatened his tent-mates with a knife, after allowing him to call home and ask for some stuff to his parents his behavior changed, so the call was worth it. The thing here is that I found out that the head of boys’ side hid from the director that a counselor head back to camp really drunk, so I knew it and talked to the director, basically the head of boys’ side put pressure on the director to fire me instead of firing the counselor who got back drunk, since I’m Mexican and was at camp as international staff, I totally felt racially discriminated from camp.

I’m pretty sure the camp knew they were doing wrong and to minimize their guilt, they even paid me the whole salary for the summer, booked a charter get me out of camp among some other stuff.

It’s been one month and so since that incident, so I still wonder should I go up WA and fill a lawsuit against camp ¿?

If you feel that you were discriminated against because of your ethnicity, contact the EEOC. The EEOC will investigate. They will either take the case or issue you a "right to sue" letter. You don't have to go to WA, you file with the EEOC in your home state.

Since you did break the rules, you'll probably lose your suit even if there was racism involved. I wouldn't bother with it, especially since they paid you for the whole summer when you didnt work the whole summer

You really need to sit down and think about this one. It goes deeper than who's right and who's wrong.

There will be some long term ramifications if you do sue. You may get money (90 percent of it will go to the lawyer not to you, so you'll get about $1000 if the judge awards you $10,000) or you might get your job back (do you really want to go back there and work?)

You will also have the reputation as someone who sues. Right or wrong, that's going to follow you and make other people less apt to hire you or want you on their property or involved in their projects.

As angry and frustrated you are, do you really want that floating along behind you for no more than you're going to get out of it? Consider chalking it up to experience and warn others that might be going to that camp what to watch out for.
