Should I explain the 1.5 year absence of work (due to maternity leave and staying home

with baby) on my resume? I chose to stay home with my baby after she was born in March 2008. I am now looking to go back to work and sending out resumes. I obviously have 1.5 years of no work history. Should I mention or explain this in my resume or cover letter? Not sure if employers will wonder what I have been doing this past year?
