Should i eat a protein bar after i do my workout? (just biking, no lifting)?

So yesterday i went biking for my workout and i biked 4 miles and stopped at a friends house and hung out for about 2 hrs and in those 2 hrs i ate a protein bar called Myoplex and a low calorie gatorade... is it a good idea to do that for just doing cardio? Cuz i worked out yesterday, my arms/abs after i got done biking so thats why i figured eating the protein bar would be good... but today is just my cardio day (letting my abs/arms recover for a day) Should i be eating protein on my off days when i do cardio? Also.. is 8 miles a day good cardio? Alot of it consists of uphill mainly, very little of it is downhill / leveled terrain. I usually do 4 miles/ hang out at a friends for 1-2 hrs then do 4 miles again, i bike pretty hard the whole way, if not the whole way.
