...University? I am taking next year off from college to help with my family, but I will be returning in the fall of '10 to finish up the last two years of my BA in psychology. I want a career in the military-- I grew up in that lifestyle and I have a lot of respect for the people who serve our country. I would like to be one of them--I'm just wondering how best to do this.
I realize there is OTS when i graduate, but I've also considered doing the LTC in fort knox to make up for missing the first two years of ROTC. I'd finish up Advanced alongside my BA. The ROTC program is an hour away--lots of travel...but i think the experiences would be worth it...
My ultimate goal is to be an operational psychologist. I want to attend UHS for my phd in clinical psychology, just wondering if I should skip ROTC and apply as a civilian (would my chances of acceptance diminish? Would I not get field training/basic training etc because I'd ultimately be directly commissioned?). I'm worried that either a) I'll get directly commission from UHS and miss out on basic training skills, or b) once I'm commissioned as an officer (through ROTC or OTS) I won't be allowed to attend USU, that I'll be obligated elsewhere on active/reserve duty...I dont know how that works and if someone could explain that would be amazing.
I'm not looking to be GI Jane here, but it's training that would come in handy being an operational psychologist.
