This is my second camera to date, so I have virtually no experience in buying cameras, but I have done research and found that Panasonic has a better overall satisfaction rate.
Here's a comparison chart:

I am just a normal high school student who needs a good, reliable camera (that won't have glitchy problems) for taking pictures with friends or vacation trips.
I found the Cyber-shot w290 on SALE marked down for 149.99 plus tax. Online price for new is about $175, so it's a steal. However, it was a display item, so I'm worrying about the battery life. So far I've tested it out for almost an hour, no problem. Charging is also quick. It has a higher ISO than the latter, so does it mean it's BETTER at taking INDOOR pictures? That's a big thing for me.
If I buy the cyber-shot, I can also get 50 FREE 4x6 shots at the store, so that's why I'm kinda leaning towards Sony (shallow, I know, but hey... free's free).
On the other Hand...
I saw Panasonic FH20 on amazon for $150 also with free shipping and no tax. It has a lower ISO though, so I assume it takes not that great indoor pics (and according to buyers' complaints). The one thing that I like is that it is said to take exceptional, clear pictures for its value OUTDOORS. And it has no tax. It doesn't have smile detection like Cyber-shot, but has face detection also.
Also, the Panasonic has a focal length of 28-224mm, wheareas Sony's is 28-140mm... not sure what that's supposed to mean or affect in a picture...
Panasonic has a higher resolution (4320 x 3240) compared to Sony (4000x3000), so clearer pictures? Or larger pictures? :S
Any advice? Help from camera experts or amateurs or buyers (I don't really care)?
THANKS for taking the time guys!! This will really affect which camera to invest in!
On amazon the price for Sony is about $230 while for Panasonic it's $150
