For that price, yes you should. I used to own one around the same model year and it was quite reliable. However, it had drum brakes and the steering was vague at best. Since you're buying it solely for one trip, then I recommend you take it.
If you're planning on keeping it, then I suggest you find a Japanese SUV for a similar price, especially if its a 4WD. It'll be far more reliable and have better performance.
