should i buy a tank for my fish or keep the bowl ?

i recently had fish in a big bowl, and accidentally left my curtains open on a hot day and they died in the heat. Either that or because i forgot to clean there fish bowl out. so im not sure to keep my bowl or buy a filtered tank that can fit on my desk?
 
Tanks are usually the best for several fish, and if with a place for the fish bowl, put it on a stand away from the window
