should I buy a Kawasaki 250 ninja as a starter bike? I weigh 130lbs and am 5'6''?

I'm very small (130 pounds and 5 foot 6 inches) and want to buy a crotch rocket. I've been researching this for a while and it seems like the kawasaki ninja 250 is a small, perfect beginners bike. I also want to know the difference between a 250 and 250r. I know the "r" stands for racing so should i stay away from those as a beginner? Also I was told these bikes are not good for the highway. Any suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated. thanks
