I am really looking into buying a jeep and i love to go off roading i havea 85 silverado that has a 454 big block so i am experienced. I want something sleek fast and that has aamazing ability to off road (sorry if i mis-spelled any words im at school at the librarian keeps bitchin). Anyway I was looking at the new (2009-2010) jeep rubicons. Either that or a wrangler and it has tobe a 5 or 6 speed ( i don't know jeeps that well so i am not familiar with there gearbox)

They are 6 speeds. Also, keep in mind that off roading is a tremendous amount of stress and drastically reduces the life of your clutch, some people prefer automatics for that reason seeing that a new clutch + labor is in the $500-$800 range. The Rubicon is in my opinion the absolute most trail ready stock vehicle with differential lockers, a 4:1 transfer case, solid axles (which are much stronger and offer better articulation than independent suspensions) and comes with excellent Goodyear MTR tires.
Also, the verdict is still out on the Jeep V-6 from 2007-present. The last year for the Jeep inline 6 cyl 4.0 was 2006. I have nearly 300,000 miles on one of my 4.0's and she's still running strong. So if your into having a long term Jeep to bash about forever, get a 2006. If you consider a future trade in get a new one.
