Should I buy a Honda Civic Sedan or Toyota Yaris?

Please help. I know nothing about cars. I'm looking at a 2008/2009/2010 sedan car that is realiable and cheap. I was told the Yaris and Civic are good. There around $15,000-16,000 only.

Which lasts longer without problems, has cheaper parts, safer if I'm in an accident (I'll be traveling with a baby sometimes), which has more features...etc?

Anything you can tell me is appreciated.

Price wise $15,000 - $16,000 = Toyota Yaris
Lasts longer without problems = Both (it depend on how you maintain it)
Cheaper parts = Toyota Yaris
Safer traveling with a baby = Honda Civic
More feature = Honda Civic

Conclusion = if you can spend more money, buy Honda Civic; but you want efficiency (now and future), buy Toyota Yaris.
