We are looking for a car for my little sister to buy to get her through college and hopefully med school as well. The thing is, our budget is tight with about $5000-$6000 to spend. I have found 2 possible cars: 2003 Ford Focus and a 2001 Honda Civic, each at different dealerships. The Ford has $74k miles on it and comes with a lifetime engine warranty (as long as you keep the oil changed every 3000k miles). The sticker price is $6700 and the blue book retail is $5900 and I have yet to see the car fax on it. The dealer says he can't go lower than $6300 though (which i think is b.s.). The Honda has 119k miles on it and the car fax checked out good. They are asking $5995 and from looking at kbb.com and the car fax seems like a great deal. So, which car sounds like the better deal (assuming they are each in excellent cond.) and will most likely last longer with less problems? It seems the reviews for civics are a lot better, but the mileage on the focus is lower, it's newer, and it comes with an engine warranty, but does that make it worth buying over the civic?
