Should I buy a dirtbike before a street bike? (motorcycle)?

I'm thinking of buying a street bike and taking lessons. I've driven a dirtbike a long time ago.. So i have little experience. Should I buy a dirt bike before a street bike? Or just get a street bike for beginners?
Have any suggestions for street bikes for beginners?? I'm 5'7 and 120lbs
 
Learning to ride a dirt bike expertly goes a long ways towards safety on a street bike. Stay away from the "crotch rockets" (cafe racers) even though they are cheaper. I first learned to ride on a dirt bike and those skills save me from serious injury twice.
 
i would definitely buy a dirtbike before a street bike, im actually doing the same thing. i've ridden dirtbikes for awhile and the experience really does help, especially when it comes to shifting and quick sudden maneuvers
