American Dream

Hello and thank you for viewing my question.
I'm 23 years old and I don't get much exercise. I go for walks but it's just too slow-pace for me. I go to run but I can't really run for long periods of time and seems like I'm not getting a good enough workout.
Should I buy a bicycle to ride for exercise? Will that benefit me?
I'm not going to be riding on mountain trails or anything (I don't think) so I just need a good mountain-bike to ride but nothing overly expensive. Looking for something about $100 probably.. a Huffy, Schwinn, Trek or something.
