I'm 43 and have had 2 vehicles in my life - a Nissan truck, and a Honda Accord. Both gave me over 200,000 miles. Paying repairs now with the Honda, time to move on, and with a family of four I like the Jeep Cherokee. Tired of small vehicles, need larger for family vacations, hauling, groceries, etc.

I hear and have read nightmare stories, then I read about people who have never had an issue with Jeep vehicles. I've never owned an American made car, am posting this to learn more about owner's experiences with this vehicle?

I don't mind minor repairs but am not interested in driving to a repair shop every month either. Thoughts?

yes of course a jeep is perfect and they are very tough and if you are looking for a car that will be good for a 43 year old this is it because it isn't to big its perfect in size the Americans need the money too trust me you wont regret this decision.

Jeeps are great vehicles. The only major repairs that you need to worry about is a new tranny at 90-120k is it is one of the crappy automatics (like the Japanese ones), and maybe an alternator at anywhere from 75k to 120k. Those of course are Diamler-Chrysler wide problems. Otherwise there is no real repairs to ever be made unless you break it.. It should give you 200k like the rest of your 2 other vehicles. Hope this helps.
