I am looking into buying a very nice 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. It has leather seats, sunroof. It has 62,000 Miles and the price is $4000. It is a 5.0L V8. I don't care about gas prices. Is this a good car that would last long without problems. I like the look of that better than the 97' Explorer. Are they any different in quality or reliability. Any extra info would be great. Should I but it? Thanks!

absolutely not, had a very bad experience with mine. There was a different problem every couple of months. Bought a new ford explorer and that is giving me problems as well, back to the dealer 3 times already for serious problems and I bought the car in September 2008

I have a 1996 Mercury Sable and I bought it in 2005 with less than 50,000 miles on it. Well first the Serpentine belt went on it and that smashed a lot of the things that were hooked up to it, that was like a $1000 repair and that was 6 months after I bought it. I paid $7000 for my car and wish I would've gone with the more expensive 2004 Chevy Malibu. I wouldn't suggest Mercury's because mine has been nothing but problems and has cost me thousands of dollars in repairs and just this past week my car refused to start because of the extreme cold than I had to get a load of things fixed because gasoline was some how pushed up into the oil tank and flooded the spark plugs. I will never ever buy another Mercury again. I wouldn't buy it if I were you.
