Should I break the law?

Hypothetically.
I am a married man with 2 children ,I work full time and my wife works part time.We are both on the minimum wage and are 5 years into a moderate mortgage.Up until 12 months ago we could get by paying the bills.Since this time our take home pay has increased by 1.5% and our essential out goings have increased by 17%.we now cannot afford to keep our house and children.
Gorden Brown says there is no quick fix,yet his family doesn,t go cold or hungry.
I look to my piers for guidance but I see MPs cheating the system and breaking the law for greed.
I see police inspectors doing the same and it being acceptable.
I hear the royal family ,[with no morals] advise us to buy organic food not being aware we can,t afford normal food.
I have always been a lawful person but I have been taught it is my responsibility to provide for my family so when citizens advice tell me to declare myself bankrupt and I will be better off on the dole I feel my only way forward is crime.
 
I understand your situation (I've vastly reduced hours and income because of ill health - nothing I can do about that) at the end of the day both you and I can't afford our bills and are terrified of what comes next. However scary that is though you have to think through the consequences of crime.
Crime hurts other people, you would hate your loved ones to be victims of crime. If you committed it they would still be victims for several reasons. You might be around people who had no conscience, what would the impact on your children be? You could easily get caught and either sent to prison, have to work unpaid hours, be put on probation, all of which would hurt your family and make you less available, not more, to support them. The stress of court cases, fines, the deceit, the shame. It's never worth it. Kids don't care if they are poor as long as their parents love them, explain that there is no shame in being poor and know they are doing their best for them. How can you tell them to do right unless you do it yourself?
It is hard and I really feel for you but stick to your principles. Just because others cheat doesn't mean we have to. There is no way we can compare ourselves to the royal family. They live in another world. We live in this one and have to get on the best we can. Some people don't have a family (I lost my only child and would happily live in a shed or a tent if I could have him back) so count your blessings where you can.

How did you get any kind of mortgage, on a minimum wage? GET OFF minimum wage, it is what they pay work-shy students to clean the toilets in burger-joints. If you don't set the standard for your pay, who will?
 
You have my sympathy, but don't despair. When I look back on my life and that of my parents (and we're talking the 1920's now!) I remember many difficult times of unemployment, Dad doing two jobs, Mum working full time, living from hand to mouth etc - but we survived! I'm sure you are already making all the economies you can - if not, there are lots of websites which give you advice on this. Maybe your kids are old enough (or soon will be ) for their mum to work full time? Maybe a little studying will help you (and her) get better jobs? There will always be the 'haves' and 'have nots', but if you have a loving and healthy family you are richer than all of them! Good luck!
 
Do whatever you need to do to keep your family happy. It's not your fault that this is happening to you and lots of other families too.
Just remember the risks of what you are doing, and if it ever gets to the stage when there is a large possibility that your family will suffer as a consequence of your actions, stop.

IF C.A.B ADVISES BANKRUPTCY THEN YOU HAVE A LOT OF DEBT
AND THE ADVICE IS GOOD.
BUT TURNING TO CRIME IS NO ANSWER TO YOUR PROBS MATE JUST GO BANKRUPT AND START WITH A CLEAN SHEET BUT DO IT DIFFERENTLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER AND WATCH THE PENNIES AND IT WILL ALL TURN ROUND GOING TO JAIL IS NO OPTION!!!!!! GOOD LUCK
