I am 20 years old, I graduated from UC Irvine in June with a 3.3 in Political Science. I have a perfect record and currently work at a local police department. I have worked there for 2 years. I am in good shape (can get a 280 in a Marine PFT) and I speak Vietnamese as well as some Spanish.
My ultimate career goal would be in federal law enforcement. I was wondering if it would be better to put myself through police academy and attempt to get hired or to try my hand at going to officer recruiting with the military? I am considering these two options because federal law enforcement agencies give Veterans Preference and I think municipal law enforcement would be a good stepping stone as well.
The police department is work at is not hiring and I have been in talks with a Marine Recruiter (have done my rough application and am waiting for MEPS). Thanks for the help.
