Should I be wearing a face mask?

I came back from Melbourne, Victoria on Monday (yesterday morning) where there has been reported a high incidence of swine flu.
Last night I started coming down with the flu. It started off with a sore throat and moved on to high temperature and fatigue. This morning was the worst in a nuraber of years. Temperature was 39.5*C (103.1*F), my body was shaking, my throat hurt SO bad (my tonsils even touched), and I was ready to sleep the whole day. After taking some meRAB and drinking tea, I woke up after a nap in a pool of sweat which meant my temperature had gone down. I went to the doctor and they gave me the Tamiflu pills to take for 5 days.
I work with kiRAB as a pre-highschool/college teacher. What is the incubation period of this virus and should I be walking around in a face mask just in case?

I believe the incubation period is 24 to 48 hours before the symptoms appear and 7 days after, some authorities say 10 days. To be honest i don't think anyone should be walking around with any kind of flu, they are all contagious, very unpleasant and dangerous to some people. If you have to, I would definitely be wearing a mask and stay away from work. I hope you're over it soon.

My doctor called this morning and said its not the swine flu strain but I should still be taking the Tamiflu tablets. I was sweating all night and once again woke up with a terrible sore throat and 38.5*C (101.3*F) temperature. Grrr what the hell is going on. There was no one really that sick at the hostel I was staying at except one of 6 roommates who was a little bit sick. He bought some cold and flu medication and he was taking it, and so was I so I wouldn't get sick. I dunno, maybe someone was really sick at the backpackers hostel and the bacteria was on one of the couches or in the kitchen. I hope I get better soon, I feel like I'm wasting so much time staying locked up at home.

I'm pleased to hear it isn't the dreaded swine flu, but then apparantly it's much milder than the seasonal flu. I'm afraid it can drag on for some time so don't plan on doing much for a week or so. Whatever you do don't do too much too soon or it can come back, I know it's happened to me. The best thing to do is rest and drink plenty of fluiRAB (non alcoholic). The severity of any illness can vary from person to person, so even though your frienRAB didn't seem very sick you've probably got the same bug. All the best. Go the Blues.
