Should I be mad? (pregnancy rant)

I am 38 weeks pregnant. At 36 weeks I went to the hospital with really bad contractions. I am still having contractions. I cant sleep a wink. Its hard to move around. I hurt so bad all I want to do it sit around and cry. I went to the doctor today, my cervix is still closed and thick! AGGGGGGGGGGhhhhhhhhhh! I scream! My baby girl's due date is Aug. 19th. which is also her daddy's birthday. I want to be induced on that day if she doesn't come early, but doc wants to wait til the 27th. My husband's best friend's wife is also pregnant. She's due on the 23rd. I just found out that she has dialated one cm and she is thinning out really fast. Her doc wants to take her next week maybe because their baby is getting to big! And to top it off, the day doc wants to induce me is my husband's best friend's bday! Am I overacting with all these pregnancy hormones out of wack? Or do I have the right to be mad as hell??!!

Let's see...you have a doctor that does not wish to induce due to your discomfort and would prefer to wait until after your due date (which is good medical practice). Also, the contractions you are having are not real contractions. If they were, your cervix would show some change. It could be false labor and I would strongly recommend upping your liquid intake. It may put a stop to them. If they continue, consider using them as practice contractions...try to relax, slow your breathing, that sort of thing. As far as your baby's birth date, it will be special for your baby and there's no need to try to get it to fall on a certain day. I know towards the end, it's hard to wait. However your doctor is doing what he thinks is best for your baby, and you should be grateful for that. There are too many doctors willing to induce for "convenience", but there are known risks to that. Best of luck and try to be patient. The big day will be here soon!
