Should I be doing business with Aerotek, a staffing group during my job search?

The staffing group called Aerotech has contacted me about a position. But are they any good to do business with?

I don't know anything about staffing groups, do they take a part of your salary?

Couldn't I just send my resume directly to the employer instead of dealing with the staffing group?
