Here's the scoop.
I got an HTC Eris (android) phone for Christmas.
It's been a problem since day one; I've had to do multiple hard resets just because it wouldn't flat out WORK.
I've had a boatload of problems (can't even remember them all!) ever since.
- Screen brightness won't stay at the level I put it.
- Touch screen jumps all over the place like mad at random intervals.
- Messages won't delete.
- Can't get my picture messages.
- I'll get picture messages days after they were sent.
- Phone freezes like crazy sometimes, and completely crashes.
- Slow response time, sometimes doesn't respond at all.
- Market is screwy most of the time...
--- Won't download my apps.
--- Won't even enter the market. (Both of these are while I have 3G)
- Numerous times when it won't detect me having service even when I'm in a place where I KNOW I have 5 bars + 3G. It'll go like this for days until I have Verizon fix it.
- I get many force closes on apps that came WITH my phone (like Messages, etc.)
- I'll get Radio Interference Resource Shortage Error or something like that, and my phone won't send messages until I take it to a Verizon store.
I'm sick of bringing this phone to a Verizon store to get serviced ALMOST EVERY WEEK. I shouldn't have to.
I explained all these problems to the guy at the store, and he said he'd check out my phone and see if any of the problems could be solved, despite me saying I just want the thing replaced. I know several people with the same phone that have ZERO problems with it whatsoever.
After a half hour, he said it was just me having too many apps (wtf, I have like, 15) and it's eating up my phone's memory. Well, no kidding, it doesn't have the greatest performance from this, but that doesn't explain 99 of the other problems I have with it!
Basically, he shrugged off whatever I said.
Me: Yeah, but I've had problems FROM. DAY. ONE. Meaning, BEFORE I put apps on it. I just want it replaced.
Him: If we can't duplicate the problems, we can't replace it.
Me: WTF?! These problems aren't going to magically happen because I tell them to!
Him: That sucks. [etc.]
He also said many of my problems are due to having too many messages saved. Well, let's see, every time I try to delete a message, the phone goes bonkers. (And not just a whole thread of messages, just one!) He completely blew me off and basically said, I expect you to sit there in your free time and delete over 4000 messages, one by one, while your phone freezes after each delete.
Me: There is seriously no way I can do that.
Him: -shrugs- That's your choice, then.
I scoffed at the way he didn't even offer me any other options, besides sitting there, literally, for hours, and deleting messages.
There was no convincing him otherwise. I'm a very quiet, well-mannered person unless you press the right buttons, and BOY did this rep ever POUND on them. At one point I just said, "I AM getting my phone replaced." But he refused, and walked away with no further answers.
I was so annoyed with him, I just took my phone back and grumbled the whole way out the door. I hope he was happy, making me cry in front of the entire store. (Panic attack disorder related.) And to continue to be so rude? If it weren't for that 2 year contract....
So. Should I seriously be able to get my phone replaced?! This is ridiculous, and there's no way I'm waiting 20 months to upgrade. I hate how they give you crap phones so then they die and you're forced to pay extra to break your contract.
PS: I eventually just said, fuck it, and gave my phone a hard reset. If it screws up again this time, I'm going back.
