Hey guys, there isnt much for Grand Cherokee's in my area these days... At least the 98-96 Grand cherokee's which is what I am looking to buy.. I dont like the newer 99-04 ones and couldnt afford one anyway. I dont like the 95-93 because they look too much like a cherokee inside with the old dash board and stuff..
I found a 1997 Inline 6 select trac grand cherokee today, its metalic silver looks good.. However it has a few problems. It failed inspection because of the exhaust and suspension.. What exactly is wrong i dont know the Auto auction said they only know it failed.. I think thats BS, however from what i saw the exhaust pipe is too small way to small compared my mom's 98 jeep. As for the suspension i dont know..
The other problems are one of the round pully's that the belt is on is a tiny bit wobbly and the engine or belt i couldnt narrow it down had a slight ticking or Squeak/tick mixture coming from it. It went away completetly when RPM's went up.
The major problem im concerned about is when i check the dipsticks for the oil and transmission the transmission fluid was dark brown in color and it smelt burnt. Im going to test drive it tomarow however from what ive looked up this means the transmission is gone..
Altho im hoping this isnt true for this one because my mom's car was really dirty along time ago and it wouldnt shift anymore and a simple fluid flush fixed it and its still driving 6+ years later. The Jeep is going for $1900 with fee's and stuff around $2100. Im going to try to get it down t around $1600 or so as i think $2100 is too much.
Should i completetly avoid this Jeep because of the burnt tranny fluid smell and brown color ? Its really hard to find Jeeps here like i said... They are either $3k for a 14 year old car, or they have really expensive problems... Should i even bother test driving it tomarow ?
