Should historical films based on fact face more scrutiny?

If we like it or not, filmmakers are new historians, people remember these hollywood movies about history as being the factual way it happened.
I see a lot of people pitching their movie as historically accurate, yet when you ask them about specific questionable details they start talking about entertainment and artistic license.
