Do you think they need help yes or no and explain?? if GM, Ford etc go under will that hurt or help the USA etc?

the oil companies were so helpfull in shutting down the EV-1 in california , perhaps they can help GM now .

Your question would be better represented if it read will a bailout save them. The numbers say Chrysler and GM will fail anyway (per CNN Hearing on Bailout). Ford technically hasn't asked for any money last I knew.
I think we shouldn't bail them out, for years they took the money they acquired and lived like kings. Their employees making on average $42 to $68 plus benefits making their average wage over $70 an hour. Then they expect the average person making just above minimum to $14.00 an hour to be able to afford them. I believe the employees got to greedy and now it is time to pay. When the Unions were asked to make concessions they said NO. When they were asked to take less pay they said NO. When they were asked to help with their health care and to pay more of a Co-Pay they said NO. Now they are afraid of their Union collapsing, because if no Detroit Three No need for the UAW. Now they cry concessions and we need Federal money to bail out the Detroit Three.
I think they need to sink or swim on their own. The job market will recover and people will have to take lower paying jobs where they may not earn $40.00 an hour but $12.00 to $14.00 like the average American and see what it is like for the average person out there trying to make a living.

Ford does not need a bailout. They are asking for 7 billion "good faith" money, kind of like a reserve in case something bad happens.

I think GM should just go out. It was bad management all around and they built cars that weren't really wanted in this economy... I know, a lot of people will lose their jobs, but how do you keep something that is barely limping along alive?

Maybe we should revive the Yugo just to give people more jobs. After all, it is winter. I'm sure the good people of America want to keep their hands warm.

The car companies should be able to clearly demonstrate to both congress AND THE PUBLIC why/how exactly they plan to become more profitable if bailed out before they get a dime from the government/taxpayers.

I haven't seen anything publicly proposed by any of the Big 3 that suggests to me that dumping multi gugillions of dollars into them is the answer. Giving Ford/GM/Chrysler $7,000,000,000 won't magically make them profitable companies like Honda or Toyota, it will just make the USA $7,000,000,000 poorer if they squander that money by doing the same things that got them into this situation in the first place.

Most of the time when people try to interfere with the natural direction of economics something bad happens. I really hope I'm wrong, but I fear I might be right. Money alone doesn't make companies smarter, it just makes them more wealthy until they blow it all if they don't know what they're doing.

No, give the money to the people, not the companies. nobody has any money. if we give the companies the money to make cars, that's great, but there's nobody to buy them! If you give the bailout money to the people, along with incentives to buy these cars everyone wins, GM gets money in to pay their employees, and the people get new cars.
