If Congress dictates the type of cars to build in return for the bailout, and if people don't buy those cars, should Congress continue bailing out the car companies or should it restrict the use of foreign cars within the U.S. borders? As I write this, I remember the Soviet Union's attempt at the same thing. How ironic.

The government should definitely influence the car industry somehow, because the car companies influence the economy and the enviorment greatly.

Nope, and they shouldn't bail them out either. Free Enterprise means you are free to make a profit, gouge the public, whatever. Also means you are free to fall on your @ss and go broke.

No way these morons cant even do the jobs they were elected to do all there good at is f*****ng up our economy and our country. They wouldn't know a good car from a bad one, and how many of them do you think drive a American made car.We now make some of the best cars on the planet.

they already do to a large degree. My answer to 99% of any government regulation questions is for the government to get the h*ll out of the way.

No, they shouldn't. They need to let the Auto Industry fail and let chips fall where they may. Invest that bailout money in our infrastructures, create jobs that way. If the Auto Industry fails, it's not like we won't have any more cars.

NO NO NO

The PEOPLE should tell CONGRESS to stay the hell out of the markets

If they had left things alone, we would never have had the sub-prime mortgage mess that started this all

But I do think that the government HAS to make right what they broke - they need to provide an alternative loan program for corporations that cant get credit solely because the banking system is busted.

It took an act of congress to destroy the credit market - it will (unfortunately) require intervention to provide a bridge back to normalcy

Of course they should, I beat you to it yesterday:
