Should celebs be off limits to police and media investigations?

In light of the latest big media story to come down the pike (the Tiger Woods story), people are taking sides on the story. Some are saying that people (the media and police and the talkers) should just "leave Tiger alone". While some want the story of what actually happened to come out. So, should celebs be exempt from police investigations and media coverage when they are involved in controversy? If they were, wouldn't that make them better than us who are not celebs, and who would have our life stories all over the pages of local newspapers if we did something that the police and media were suspicious of? What if Tiger's wife really did beat him because of the alleged "affair"? Should she just get off totally free and not investigated because she's the wife of a celeb?
