Should bicycling give me a good work out ?

Hi, I ride a fixed gear, the ratio is 46/15. I don't have brakes, but I usually ride 10-15 miles a day. Is this a good work out or a bad one ? Should I be doing this everyday or every other day ? Please let me know what you cyclists do. Also I'm in LA so the roads are fairly flat and couple of uphills.

P.S do you cyclists ride alone or with groups everyday and for how long.. please be reasonably honest here.
