I asked if Americans are to blame and it looks like people think these problems started in the last few years.
America did not get this way overnight.
Republicans and Democrats have both let the Americans down.
But Americans as a whole let their selves down by allowing both parties to rule.
We ourselves as a people our to blame.
And if we stand together we can fix it.
But is is easier to blame then fix.
Bridges not fences.

To answer your question, I would say that both fences and bridges are needed, each in the appropriate place and time.

I posted a link below which givies the words to the wonderful poem by Robert Frost called "The Mending Wall" and I think before judging my words, everyone should read it. The last line says: "Good fences make good neighbors." If people really understood the meaning of that line, I feel that most would agree.

But I agree that people need to stand together and not place blame.

America will always be hated. It doesn't matter who is in office. And it doesn't matter if Europe loves us or hates us.

You're as free as any person ever has been, living in this great country. You're hated for it. You're envied. That's just life.

We are not to blame, entirely. We can sure be friendlier. But don't carry all the baggage - it isn't all always our fault.
