Should “Truth” and “News” be two separate entities, or synonymous?

Should anyone calling themselves a “News Program, News Papers or News Website” be required to tell the “truth” to the best of their abilities while covering an event? Or is it okay to lie while passing yourself off as a “Reliable News Source”?

Ideally, they should only report facts and truths as news, not opinion and commentary. They do have the right to print or report anything they want though. Real news would have no spin, and I'm sure would be equally tough on both sides of any rational issue. What we generally have is spin generated to appeal to an audience that is called News.
