okay so i see my dr. every 3 months for my thyroid check up. was diagnosed with shortness of breath about 10 years ago i think. but during that time, when i've been really sick and had gone to the emergency room, (not over breathing) and the doctor would ask me what pills i'm on and whatnot, well i told him i have shortness of breath and that i use an inhaler which isnt very often. but he said well u have asthma. its not shortness of breath. but then when i see my regular doctor she says its shortness of breath. sometimes when i dont see my regular doctor, they tell me i have asthma. so i'm really confused. which one is it?? is there a difference???

Hi, Ninjamonkeyk . . . I get occasional shortness of breath and have a rescue inhaler as well. Mine is classified as low grade asthma as I do not have to be on daily medication to control it.

"Shortness of breath" is not really a diagnosis. "Asthma" is and it can be in varying degrees like mine.

If you have taken a spirometer test to measure your forced exhaled air volume and they said it was asthma, then that is what it is.

Hope this helps.

Lindaru :)
