shooting nerve pain in head

I have a shooting pain in the side of my head just above my ear, its almost like an electric shock ,or nerve pain, it is always in the same place,i have had it for two weeks now i have taken loads of pain killers but it just doesnt go away anyone else have this ?i have had this before it comes and goes when i get it it lasts a couple of weeks and goes, then i might not get it for a few months then it comes back again.

have you ever REALLY fully had this pain evaluated for the actual real 'reason/trigger" of it to even BE there at all? since this appears to actually be a reoccuring type of pain, i most certainly would at this point in time, ask your primary doc for the very least here a good contrasted MRI being done on the brain/head area AND your c spine too since some levels of innervation within that c spine can easily create pain or other issues within the head too? but DO make certain that the MRI is also using a good contrasting agent as well, esp when looking into the brain? it really DOES help to better highlight all arteries within the brain as well and other more obscure and at times somewhat hidden types of possible findings there and that just can be in our spinal levels too, esp that much more highly innervated c spine level/and outter neck that also carries all the blood supply to that brain and from it within the narrow neck area? at times certain things can actually even impair or impact bloodflow velocitiys too? this would just be a very good type of 'baseline' testing which may or may not actually show 'the" problem itself but could show what may be making it occur from other sources. but this just has gone on kind of long enough without answers so it should just be done now just to finally 'see' into the potential trigger areas. depending upon just what may or may not actually show with the MRI being done, the next step here should be at the very least seeing a good neurologist to at least start with. or depending upon IF certain findings actually show, a neurorosurgeon may give you the very best info here with a consult/eval. BUT, like i already mentioned, alot would depend upon what may possibly show once that much deeper look is simply done with the MRI itself. the findings of it are usually what tend to really dictate who should be realitically 'seen" next. ya just NEED the "looksee' there in both areas i mentioned before anything really.

just what does this really 'feel like' when it starts up, and does it just kind of "sit there" or does it tend to actually radiate out to any other areas of your head too(up down or to a side) or actually into your face in any ways? ANY other symptoms with this or that you may just kind of have always in a more "underlying' way like neck pain or sensations in certain places that have no real explanation either? anything that you simply 'feel/show" that would not be considered to be a 'normal' type of thing would be kind of considered to be at least a possible 'sign or symptom, just so you know.

but i would be asking your primary for that contrasted MRI referal on that brain and c spine at the same time to just be done. at the very least this IS getting that 'ball rolling' towards possibley finding things out sooner vs later at this point. 'something' IS generating or triggering this pain in you, its kind of a matter os testing things that try and track it back to THAT particular spot that will hopefully lead to the real underlying reason and diagnosis of what this just 'is'.

good luck with this and make certain to ALWAYS ask for any and ALL copies of ALL testing results done on yourself so YOU simply have them for your own medical file you can keep at home too(and you just really DO always have a right to this stuff too). reading thru your own testing results in some cases can be much more revealing than what esp the specialists will not allways even TELL the patient about depending upon ONLY how pertient they" feel they are and not how critical they 'could be" to someone with more experience and knowledge of any given finding and its real meaning actually is. so always obtain all of your OWN copies, including this hopefully upcoming MRI radiology report that will be created. thanks for your reply , i will go and get this investigated , i do wonder if there is something that triggers this , i wonder if it could be stress related as i have been under pressure at work the past couple of weeks or is it something more that i should be worried about.it does stay in one area on the right side of my head just above my ear area,i will contact my doctor this week.
