Up to 13 people were shot in Chicago Thursday night, including a 3-year-old, according to various news agencies.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office told a Chicago Sun-Times reporter that no deaths were reported.
Officials said the child and two other victims were in critical condition.
The shootings happened at about 10:15 p.m. at a basketball court in the city's Back of the Yard's neighborhood on the South Side, according to the Sun-Times.
A witness, Julian Harris, who said his 3-year-old nephew was wounded in the cheek, told the Sun-Times: "They hit the light pole next to me, but I ducked down and ran into the house." He said that gunmen fired at him from a grey sedan.
People at the scene said two people may have been firing weapons, WBBM reported. No one was in custody, according to the station.
Police spokesman Ron Gaines said that victims were being interviewed to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
The shooting comes nearly three weeks after Chicago saw an outburst of violence over the Labor Day weekend that ended with eight dead and 20 others injured.
