Shifting troubles on a GM 700 R4 1989 TRANS?

I finally got the thing to shift by jacking up the rear and putting it in OD, apparently it was 2 separate things. 1 the ECM had to reset in order to send the Torque converter clutch switch a signal in order to open the valves to up shift and no one really knows how long it would take by driving (up to 100 miles I was told could be possible ) 2. Allowing it to fill up the valves with tranny fluid to allow it to actually shift. anyway it worked. Now my TV cable needs to be adjust slightly since it is shifting pretty late. Do I push the cable towards the throttle or pull it away from the throttle in order to get it to shift sooner ? Hopefully you won't be hearing anymore about this Transmission problem. I said hopefully.

NOTE: This procedure applies to the THM 700R4 transmission.

The adjustment is made at the engine end of the cable with the engine off, by rotating the throttle lever by hand. DO NOT use the accelerator pedal to rotate the throttle lever.

Remove the air cleaner.
Depress and hold down the metal adjusting tab at the end of the cable.
Move the slider until it stops against the fitting.
Release the adjusting tab.
Rotate the throttle lever to the full extent of it travel.
The slider must move towards the lever when the lever is at full travel. Make sure that the cable moves freely.
NOTE: The cable may appear to function properly with the engine cold. Recheck it with the engine hot.


Road test the truck.
